Case Study
Tehsil Gupis in District Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan is a remote, mountainous area where access to quality education is limited. Many government primary schools in its villages lacked a welcoming, child-friendly, and standard learning environment, which made it harder for young children to start school with confidence and for families to see school as a place worth investing in. Classrooms were in poor physical condition and lacked adequate furniture, leaving young learners without a comfortable, safe space to learn.
The Global Brotherhood Foundation (GBF) upgraded 8 government schools across the tehsil through complete renovation and furnishing:
- Govt. Primary School Khalti
- Govt. Primary School Gamais
- Govt. Primary School Jandrote Bala
- Govt. Primary School Aja Kui
- Govt. Primary School Cheermayoon
- Govt. Primary School Hamardas
- Govt. Primary School Hakis
- ECD Class at Jandrote
The work created bright, safe, welcoming classrooms with proper furnishings so that young learners could study in comfort and with dignity. Each school received structural and interior renovation along with child-appropriate furniture. The work was carried out in coordination with local communities and the education department.
Following the upgrades, student enrollment increased in the renovated schools, and community engagement with the schools grew. Parents expressed deep gratitude for the initiative. ✔ Today, children in these villages learn in standard, child-friendly classrooms.
What comes next
GBF plans to monitor enrollment and attendance in the upgraded schools and work with communities to keep the facilities well maintained. Partners and donors can help extend similar upgrades to other under-resourced primary schools and ECD classes in Ghizer and neighboring areas.
